With ‘Victoria’s Secret’ photos of a newly-trim, post-baby Heidi Klum currently in circulation, you could be forgiven for thinking that fashion is having a bit of a pin-up fetish at the moment.

With next summer’s muse set to be the saucepot (I refer you to Dolce & Gabbana’s recent runway homage to the Sicilian bombshell), there’s no getting away from the fact that, this winter, the fashion world is all about S-E-X.

This trend, following the recent ‘Victoria’s Secret’ show with newcomers Chanel Iman and Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley, continued with the launch party this week for the new 2010 Pirelli calendar.

The Pirelli calendar, as much a fixture of your local garage as the socket wrench, is famous for its sultry photos.  But think of high fashion and Pirelli doesn’t automatically spring to mind.

This is all about to change, as Pirelli tasked fashion photographer Terry Richardson to shoot 30 images for its new calendar. Terry took on the project and enlisted the help of a few familiar faces. Shot entirely on location in Brazil, it has been confirmed that Miranda Kerr, Lily Cole, Catherine McNeil and Daisy Lowe will all be Pirelli calendar girls.

However, if you’re expecting couture for grease monkeys, prepare to readjust your expectations. Rumours are that the standard Pirelli look will remain in place to appeal to its devoted fans, but the girls are expected to add some high fashion polish to the proceedings, with simply-staged photographs that hark back to the Pirelli calendars of the early Seventies.

Famous for its limited availability, the Pirelli calendar is a corporate gift only given to Pirelli clients and VIPs. If you want to get your hands on a copy, best make friends with your mechanic.
