When former Brookside actress Anna Friel signed on to play Holly Go Lightly in the stage revival of ‘Breakfast at Tiffanys’, she took on much more than revisiting the role made famous by style icon Audrey Hepburn. From the very beginning of her 4-month stint as Holly Go Lightly, Anna Friel has been determined to make a series of fashionable exits.
Every night at London’s Theatre Royal, Anna leaves the stage door in a different look. With a wardrobe count of 50 different outfits to date, Friel’s attention to detail has captured the interest of the fashion press and paparazzi alike, with her post-show wardrobe recently profiled in Grazia magazine.
Utilising a wardrobe in excess of £20,000, Anna has worn everything from Sergio Rossi to showcasing the latest of her friend (Kate Moss’) collection from Topshop. Leaving no sartorial stone unturned, Anna has created a fashion marathon with more theatrical pulling power than the ‘The Mousetrap’.
Blending the best of the high street with designer and vintage fashion, Anna has upped the profile of the show, often pulling looks from vintage stores to stay true to the novel’s original 1940’s roots.
Friel’s eclectic mix of fashion, from playsuits to vintage gowns, is always underpinned with a sleek application of photo-friendly red lipstick – timeless fashion shorthand for glamour and sophistication.
With ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ run due to end in January 2010, Friel has told Grazia magazine that she has yet to feel the pressure of coming up with something new every night, instead ‘relishing the challenge’.
Friel’s canny mastery of the press shows how indelible the link between fashion and the arts has become. With London’s West End still calling names from Hollywood to tread the boards and test their skills in front of a live audience, Friel has raised the bar on post-show appearances.
