Hello Hello

Everyone expects a little drama at fashion’s big night out, but this year, the British Fashion Awards packed a little more punch than expected.
The event held at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, started off tamely enough until it was time to present the Fashion Creator Award.
Chosen to present the award to this year’s recipient was veteran supermodel Karen Elson. Elson, used to walking the runway for designers such as Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana and Chloe, made an unforgettable entrance onto the stage.
Elson walked straight into an ‘ill-concealed orchestra pit’, and fell four feet. Onlookers voiced their concerns, until a plucky Elson appeared back on stage within minutes, announcing that ‘I am the clumsiest person on this earth. I cannot believe I just did that!’
Interviewed later, Elson remarked that it was ‘the worst fall I have ever had. I might have broken a rib, but I’m fine.’
Elson insisted on going ahead with her duties for the night and presented The Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, which this year went to US Vogue fashion stylist, Grace Coddington. Grace, who originally comes from Wales, can consider this honour as the cherry on top of a stellar year. Coddington emerged from behind the scenes to steal the show in fashion documentary ‘The September Issue’. Coddington, who has a reputation for being of the finest stylists in the world, won over audiences with her wit and warmth.
Other winners included Georgia May Jagger, who nabbed the coveted Model of the Year Award. 2009 has been an incredible run of success for the 17-year-old, including a campaign with Hudson jeans and a Spring / Summer 2010 campaign with Italian super-brand Versace.
But for all intents and purposes, the night belonged to Karen Elson. It just goes to show that taking a tumble is one thing, but dusting yourself down and carrying on? Very fashion, very British.
