Hello Hello

Most fashion magazines do their best to keep readers interested. Some employ a little persuasion with free gifts, but French Vogue went one better for their June / July issue.
Instead of giving away a free lipstick or store discount, this summer’s edition of Vogue Paris came with a DVD. The mini-documentary, called ‘Les Filles en Vogue’, provides a scintillating behind-the-scenes look at what happens during Paris Fashion Week.
Commentary is provided by French Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Carine Roitfeld, and the stars of the film are Natasha Poly, Constance Jablonski, Freja Beha, Sessilee Lopez and Sasha Pivovarova. The five girls are interviewed as they dash between castings and shows; particularly mind-boggling is Sessilee recounting her recent itinerary, which has seen her criss-cross the globe via Switzerland, Thailand, Barcelona and New York.
The film includes several of the ‘Vogue Girls’ attending go-sees for the Givenchy and Sonia Rykiel shows, intercut with runway footage from Balmain and Jean Paul Gaultier, plus candid shots captured by Sasha Pivovarova who turned cameraman especially for the project.
Much of the documentary is in French, but if your grasp of French stopped at the school gate, don’t panic: most of the interviews with the models are in English, and the runway segments need no translation whatsoever.
The film is undeniably stylish but it provides a truly fascinating look into what goes into making those fashion moments on the runway that we all love to watch. This documentary is also available to watch on YouTube, and is an incredible gift to anyone interested in high fashion.
