News - Whistles: Can fashion reclaim feminism?

CEO of clothing giant Whistles Jane Shepherdson, and Alexis Kirschbaum Editorial Director or Penguin books, co-hosted an "Evening with inspiring women" where 80 women within the fashion industry were invited to hear three women who have been who have built successful careers in a male dominated world talk about their experiences.

"I just think it's time to re-claim feminism" said Jane Shepherdson, "we're all feminists in the Whistles office. And the great thing about running your own company is that you can do what you want. So we thought it was time to come out and celebrate feminism. I mean, how bad can the backlash be?"

She is obviously joking about the backlash, but is also making a fair point; Fashion is led and driven by women, but rarely is feminism mentioned. This is an industry full of women who are passionate about their careers, and also about fashion, so it's very nice to celebrate that.
