How Celebrities Use the Catwalk
If you thought, celebrities were everywhere before, just wait --- celebrities have now taken over the fashion world! Their pictures are now plastered all over magazine covers; they virtually run numerous ad campaigns that you see them in, plus they are responsible for creating their very own designer labels; so if they are up to doing all of that, then why stop there? So, now they are walking the runway too. Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick (plays Chuck Bass) landed his first modelling role ever during Milan Fashion Week when he opened up Philipp Plein’s fashion show. It went absolutely great and then Westwick closed the show too. He wasn’t just randomly selected either; in fact, professional Terry Richardson has already photographed his chiseled, beautiful face for the distinguished ad campaign (fall-winter) the brand is running.
There have been several celebrities who have struck a pose once or more, thus impressing enough to warrant a runway walk. This would of course start right off with Westwick, whom we just opened up with, but then you have Ellen DeGeneres, Lady Gaga, The Duff sisters- Haylie and Hilary, Amanda Bynes, Whitney Port and even Audrina Patridge- The Hills; Chloe Sevigny, Selena Gomez, JP Rosenbaum- The Bachelorette, Beyonce, Gwen Stefani and Leandra Medine runway catwalk here or there and making it work like they were a seasoned modelling pro with years of experience (although to their credit, some had modelling experience).
Of course, the fans are eating it up! They love to see their favorite celebs wearing their favorite fashions on the catwalk, especially when they are raising money for a cause. With celebs walking the catwalks and gaining more attention than the models themselves at times, it leaves some of the new models and aspiring models the forethought to imagine that if the more they resemble a model that looks exactly like the actresses Selena Gomez; the Twilight and Snow White star Kristen Stewart or Hunger Games Jennifer Lawrence. Modelling agencies all over the UK are receiving new portfolios and head shots every day and more of these applicants are submitting portfolios where they essentially resemble your favorite young celebrity.
Models are also now seeing because of this celebrity trend that there can be more to modelling than just the hitting the runway; for instance- that may be acting can be a consideration for their time in between modelling gigs for a short temp role here and there. Vice-versa applies for those actors who enjoy strutting their stuff down the runway in the latest fashions as a change of pace to their normal acting routines. Celebs like Victoria Beckham, Emma Watson, Katie Holmes and many, many others have pounded the runways too in prior years. Picking up a fashion gig from a modelling agency for a celeb is beneficial to both the agency and celeb. With this being the case, celebs are sure to just keep it up as a way to not only promote their own image, but now they can add modelling to their resume which if you are in the public eye, then anything you add to it only advances your reputation and make you further recognized and embraced by the public.
